Why Inter Scientific is a quality-based business

Quality has many definitions; a characteristic, a high standard, something good or amazing, or a measure of how good/bad something is. Aside from the obviously quality people we have in our team, and the top quality services we provide, Quality is the backbone of how we do things at Inter Scientific. By this I mean of course Quality Assurance, or the processes we use to systematically monitor aspects of our management and services.

Quality-Based Business

We have a robust Quality system based on the highest standards from the ISO*, and accredited by the most reputable body in the UK: the British Standards Institute (BSI). We base our EQMS on ISO9001, ISO14001, and we are currently working on integrating ISO17025 (due to be certified 2021); we then embellish it with further detail based on the high expectations we have of ourselves. 

EQMS is our Environmental and Quality Management System. This is essentially a collection of processes and protocols that guides us in our focus on consistently meeting requirements and enhancing customer satisfaction; this is the framework based on ISO9001. 

We are a company with a strong sustainability ethos, so the EQMS also integrates environmental performance, with a view to reducing environmental impact; this is ISO14001. 

Our new laboratory means a new section in the EQMS and integration of laboratory-specific protocols, this is where ISO17025 comes in. As well as the ISO standards, we also comply with the FDA’s Good Laboratory Practice.

What it means to us

In order to be world-class in the realms of regulatory, consultancy, and analytical services, we must be firmly grounded in ethics and rigorous quality systems. However, Inter Scientific levels up as a business in the fact that the engagement of all employees in strategic decisions is also paramount. I can say from personal experience (and not just because the bosses will read this!) that staff are encouraged to contribute ideas and solutions, and supported to develop themselves professionally. This is not only good for the individual, but also for the good of the company, as a valued and engaged workforce means enhanced quality and productivity.

Impact

Quality in this context, therefore, is how we ensure excellence in our service provision, and daily operations. We maintain quality through audits and various performance indicators, as well as the setting and monitoring of objectives, customer feedback, changes, and updates. All of these can detect and correct problems that fall outside of the standards and requirements set in the EQMS. We have a dedicated (if small) Quality Department who focus on continual improvement within the company.
