Nicotine Detected in Vape Products Promoted as ‘Nicotine-Free’
Oct 23, 2023
During recent work for ITV News, Inter Scientific’s testing discovered nicotine to be present in a number of vape products which were promoted as ‘nicotine-free’.

To purchase nicotine containing vape products in the UK, you must be 18+ however, nicotine-free vape products do not have the same limitations and can be purchased legally by under 18s.

Our testing results indicate that young individuals using vape products labelled as 0% nicotine may still face potential nicotine exposure. This risk arises from the unlawful marketing and sale of vapes that contain nicotine but are falsely promoted as 'nicotine-free', which could potentially lead them to develop a dependency on the habit.

Currently, the UK is facing a youth-vaping epidemic, with the Government recently announcing new measures to combat the illegal sale of vapes to under 18s.

As a company which supports vaping as a smoking-cessation tool and works with many reputable vape business around the world, Inter Scientific would like to highlight that vape products marketed as nicotine-free when they in fact contain nicotine are non-compliant and are therefore on the market illegally.

Counterfeit products continue to pose a threat to not only consumers including youth, but also to legitimate vape businesses which comply with UK law and safety standards in order to provide the public with an effective smoking-cessation product.
